“Wo-oooow,” she admired, over and over, as the water filled the tub.
I showered first, so I could hop in the deep tub with her (in my swimsuit, just to be clear), making sure that the high water didn’t knock her off balance.
As the water level rose past the jet, we pushed the button together to release the tiny air bubbles, and the motor started humming as the jets turned on.
I’d heard from other families about the benefits, but there was still some doubt. How much difference can this tub make?
The water quickly became foggy as the air bubbles emerged from the jets.
And then I began to rub her back…and her legs…and her arms.
And her skin softened and practically fell off as I lightly rubbed.
We played and played. We giggled over the stream of bubbles pushing her puffy blue fish and her choo-choo train around the water, and we read her bath books. We held our hands in the way of the jet, and she exclaimed “Tickle!”
And the whole time, I rubbed my hands gently on her skin, under the foggy water, and she barely noticed.
A half hour later, we again pushed the button, and the motor stopped humming with a little whoosh. We emerged from the bath tub, skin flakes covering the top of the water, and even covering me.
There were no pleas of “ALL DONE.” There was no fighting to hold her still.
We always thought we wanted a MicroSilk bath tub for Brenna, so we splurged a bit on her newly constructed bathroom in our new home, hoping that it would make a difference in her skin care.
It has not only made a difference in her skin care (her skin is as healthy as ever), but it has made a difference in our lives. It has brought a bit of normalcy, a bit of joy and play, into our daily bath routine – when most of what we had experienced was crying and fighting.
I had also heard that one of the benefits is better sleep…we have yet to experience that, but hey, there are only so many miracles this tub can work! 🙂
Maybe better sleep will come eventually…but I’ll take no crying for now. I have always hoped that one day Brenna would find bath time enjoyable, and finally getting to experience a fun bath with her has been a really exciting change.
