For the last three days, I have been constantly hitting the refresh button on Stephanie’s Facebook page, anxiously waiting to see an update after Stephanie announced earlier in the week that she was going to be induced!
Stephanie made it all the way to week 40 before her doctors decided it was time for Mr. William to be evicted from his cozy home. From what I know, her labor moved very slowly after she arrived at the hospital on Thursday night all the way until Saturday afternoon, when she was prepared to have a C-section.
On late Saturday afternoon, May 25, William Curtis Drake Turner, weighing 7 lbs. 10 oz., made his grand entrance as thousands around the world cheered and prayed for his safe arrival. This precious miracle made history as his mommy is the first woman ever with Harlequin Ichthyosis to be pregnant and have a baby!
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Stephanie and Curt on their new gift from God! Please keep Stephanie in your prayers as she heals fully from her C-section, since she is at greater risk for infection.
My eyes have filled with tears every time I think about how much Will’s birth means not only to Stephanie, Curt and their families, but to all of us in the ichthyosis community, especially those of us who have children with Harlequin. (And how appropriate that his birth fell right in the middle of Ichthyosis Awareness Month 🙂 )Stephanie has truly proven that our children can accomplish anything!
