A couple of weeks ago, we registered this big guy for KINDERGARTEN! Connor is so excited to be attending the same school that Brenna goes to in the fall… And I’m pretty excited about having them both in school every day, only 2 minutes from our house 🙂
Here’s a round-up of some of my favorite reads, links and moments lately…
In February, I finished Speak: How Your Story Can Change the World by Nish Weiseth – HIGHLY recommend for anyone! I finished it in a weekend – as well as Lizzy & Jane by Katherine Reay (a good fiction read that got surprisingly deep and thought-provoking at some points) and I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai (I absolutely loved the history and perspective of this book, and I think it’s a fantastic read especially for teen girls.)
As for the kids, we’re in the very early stages of working on reading with Connor, and he is getting more excited as he gains more confidence, which has been fun to see…so we’ve been checking out Early Reader books from the library. Brenna is loving the Amelia Bedelia and Llama Llama series right now 🙂
This story on A Deeper Story is one of the most simply powerful blog posts I’ve ever read. I love the concept of each of us just adding a “plus one” to our families each week, looking out for those who may need us.
Several of my friends from college recently linked to this humorous article about raising children… and just when you think it’s all amusement, the writer hits you with some real, spot-on food for thought about parenting at the end.
This guest post from Emily Ladau on What Do You Do, Dear? brought me to tears thinking about Brenna as she grows up. I can only hope for such a wonderful outlook on life and family.
I am going to try making this beef burrito casserole as a freezer meal this week.
I’m working on my home office right now, and I am going to use this as my inspiration (my walls are a similar green to that frame, with a white desk and shelves. I think adding some gold pops might be fun and easy.)
Evan and I got to attend an Illini basketball game a couple of weekends ago – a rare and fun Sunday with just the two of us!
Brenna’s first time in the snow 🙂
Bedtime prayers 🙂
I was a super cool mom/made the mistake of allowing my kids to push their own miniature carts at the grocery store. They were in heaven… and I spent the whole time apologizing to other shoppers, saying “excuse us” and coaxing them to move more quickly. I was a bit frazzled by the time we left… 🙂
This big girl is getting very resourceful…and brave!
